The Donald W. Thomas Library Expectations

Welcome to the Donald W. Thomas Library of the American Academy in Tbilisi.

The AAT administration, faculty, and trustees have worked hard to equip the Academy with such outstanding resource as our Library. We are happy to give you the privilege of using it and trust you will respect it as a Learning Laboratory.

The Library is a busy place and its use requires maturity, consideration and cooperation to help us keep the Library beautiful and maintain a friendly and quiet working atmosphere that benefits everyone.

THE LIBRARIANS EXPECT THAT,  WHILE IN THE LIBRARY, YOU:
  1. Are purposefully engaged in quiet research, reading, or study which does not interfere with any other occupant’s ability to do the same;

  2. Come to the Library to learn how to use the resources that are here. Take advantage of the librarians’ knowledge and willingness to help you to really learn to use libraries, information sources, and computers, and develop your literary and other intellectual interests;

  3. Acknowledge that computers are to be used only for educational purposes: personal email, chat rooms, and games are inappropriate, as is Internet use that is not related to school; Though, such activities are now allowed in the Student Lounge, and you are welcome to use this area during breaks and after the end of classes;

  4. Print only what you will use. Use CPR (i.e. cut, paste and reduce) before printing. Whenever possible, email information found online to yourself or save it in your folder rather than print it in the Library;

  5. Do your group work as quietly as possible;

  6. Never bring food or drinks into the Library;

  7. Never use your cell phone, or personal electronic music devices in the Library. If noticed, the librarians will take your equipment away for a period determined at their discretion;

  8. Leave nothing but your footsteps - clean up after yourself, put trash in the trash bins, turn off the lights at the study carrels, and push in the chairs!

  9. Do not use the Library as a place to meet friends to discuss personal or social matters. Try the student lounge, the cafeteria, the front yard, or the benches in the front hall.

  10. Do not enter the Library office (the area behind the circulation desk) without the librarians’ permission.

We, Ms. Tamar Gvaramadze, the Library Director, Ms. Manana Pkhakadze, the Librarian, and Ms. Nato Dvaladze, the Library Assistant care about you and are here to help you. Ask us!
