Methodology

The four-year program of studies at the Academy is designed to produce well-rounded students who are prepared to enter local universities in Georgia as well as major universities in Europe and the United States. English is the primary language of instruction, except in classes studying Georgian and Russian where these languages are spoken exclusively.

Our academic program makes the following demands:

  1. Daily preparation will be stressed with homework in every subject, every day.

  2. Students will be expected to participate actively in every class, communicating not only with the teacher, but also with their peers.

  3. Wherever and whenever practicable, technology will be integrated in instruction.

  4. Frequent writing and formal recitation will be given high priority in all subjects.

  5. Attendance is mandatory. Excessive absenteeism can result in lower marks or the requirement that a student repeat the year.

The academic year is divided into three trimesters or terms, each comprising sixty days and ending in a marking period. Midterms occur at the halfway point of each term at which time teachers communicate noteworthy student progress. Unless otherwise designated, classes meet four times per week with one double period. Students engage in physical and extracurricular activities throughout the year.

Our academic program differs from that of the typical Georgian program inasmuch as our courses are more intensive, meeting five hours each week in small classes throughout the year. They include a high degree of ”hands on” activities, as well as the use of advanced textbooks and technology.

2008-2009 marks our eighth year of operation. The school is now well into its second phase of development in which its policies are being strengthened and its gains consolidated. Our NGO, The Educational Development and Research Center, continues to provide outreach services to other teachers and schools through seminar programs in Tbilisi, Kutaisi, and Telavi.
