The Guivy Zaldastanishvili American Academy in Tbilisi is a private high school enrolling 218 students in grades 9-12. Our aim is to provide a model for the renovation of Georgian education through the implementation of modern interactive teaching methods that promote critical thinking, analysis, and writing skills, while at the same time promoting an appreciation and love for traditional Georgian culture and society. The mission of the school is to help bring Georgia into the 21st century by preparing its children to compete on a global scale, both locally and in schools abroad. We bring highly trained and well-paid teachers to a modern, well-equipped facility that is designed for interactive learning in small classes, and supported by sophisticated technology and laboratories. Although the school is American in name, it is of, by, and for Georgians. With the exception of Georgian and Russian, all subjects are taught in English. This school provides a model for the renovation of Georgian education through its high standards, rigorous curriculum, and innovative pedagogies. AAT has initiated a program of outreach seminars to train Georgian teachers in these methods and standards.
